3 Reasons You Need Regular Dental Visits

Posted by | Dental Visits, El Paso/ Juarez | No Comments

There’s a common denial when it comes to visiting the dentist. For many, it’s a dreaded task that gets avoided until a painful toothache develops of out of the blue. After doing every possible home remedy, the last resort is to schedule a dentist appointment. When the pain subsides after receiving professional care, you might not see a dentist until another issue unfolds. This type of behavior, while common, is the worst thing you can do for your teeth. On average, you should see your dentist twice a year.

Here are the top three reasons you need regular visits to the dentist:

Reason #1. Proper cleaning.

Daily brushing, flossing and rinsing with mouthwash are all great hygiene practices. Unfortunately, even if you never miss a day of flossing, bacteria, plaque, and tartar can only be removed with professional dental tools. These hard to reach spots are professionally cleaned to prevent tooth decay and gum disease. Our dentist can also recommend American Dental Association (ADA) approved toothbrushes, flossing tools, and mouthwashes. The importance of professional teeth cleaning includes helping you save money on dental expenses down the road. Seeing a dentist at least once a year can prevent potential surgeries and costly treatments.

Reason #2. Early detection of disease.

Dental care can help ensure overall health. Oral health problems are indicators of other health issues. For example, bleeding gums and losing teeth are first signs of diabetes. Infections in the gums may also worsen diabetes and put you at risk of heart disease. Moreover, in older adults, poor oral hygiene may be related to dementia. A study published in the Journal of the American Geriatric Society found that elderly adults who brushed their teeth less than once a day were 65 percent more likely to develop dementia. Researchers in this study speculate that gum disease bacteria might spread to the brain and cause inflammation. Dentists can also detect signs of Crohn’s disease, an inflammatory bowel disorder with symptoms such as diarrhea, mouth sores, and fatigue. Patients with the disease show signs in their mouth but only an X-ray can rule out that it’s not gum disease.

Reason #3. Enhance your smile.

If you smoke or drink caffeinated beverages, your teeth are prone to stains that are difficult to remove. Grocery store toothpaste might remove stains for a short period of time but they won’t improve the overall health of your teeth. In recent times, home remedies have become attractive methods to whiten teeth but not all of these practices are good for you. If you search “at home teeth-whitening techniques” on YouTube you will find half a million videos on hacks and quick-fixes. One popular approach is dissolving stains with acidic lemon juice. Not only does lemon juice deteriorate the enamel of your teeth but it disrupts the natural saliva in your mouth, leaving your teeth vulnerable to erosion. This method can also irritate your gums. Over time, loss of tooth enamel will lead to tooth sensitivity, making it painful to eat or drink. There are other, much safer ways of enhancing your smile. Out office treats stained teeth from yellow discoloration to brown stains with porcelain veneers, esthetic fillings, teeth whitening, and other full mouth rehabilitation procedures.

Rated BEST for service by whatclinic.com

NUCLEO DENTAL has been recognized with an annual award based on patient service excellence ratings from healthcare search engine WhatClinic.com.

WhatClinic looked at 12 months of data from users of its site, in relation to NUCLEO DENTAL including patient review scores, feedback data and clinic contact rates. In 2016 over 17 million people visited the comparison site to find and compare clinics.

NUCLEO DENTAL was only one of a small number of clinics on the site that met the exacting standards needed to qualify for the award. Not only must the clinic have a consistently high ServiceScore™ rating to qualify, the rating measures the clinic’s commitment to customer service over a whole year, and so represents long term commitment dealing with patients. Less than 2% of clinics on the site qualified for the award this year.

ERNESTO MORAN, NUCLEO DENTAL’s MD today said; “We are delighted to be recognized for our commitment to customer service. As a practice, it is something we focus on in everything we do and to receive such positive feedback from our patients is great…”

WhatClinic.com CEO Caelen King congratulated NUCLEO DENTAL and said “Our awards are now in their 7th year, and this year, for the first time – we have made the ratings data that we use to calculate awards visible on our listings. Ratings are useful to both consumers and clinics. Consumers can see which clinics have rated well with lots of other users, and Clinics can evaluate their own performance against others in their market, ideally with the goal of getting better and better at serving their patients, which is ultimately good for everybody.

“We believe that by giving consumers as much information as possible that we can improve private healthcare services for everyone. With these awards we honor clinics that are dedicated to the highest level of customer care and consistently putting the patient at the heart of what they do.”
